Wisconsin’s Domestic Partnership Registry does not infringe on the constitutional ban on gay marriage, a Wisconsin judge has ruled. Wisconsin Family Action, and advocacy website, had challenged the Domestic Partnership Registry as unconstitutional, but Judge Daniel Moeser has ruled that the domestic partnership legal status is not “substantially similar” to marriage. The register grants hospital visitation rights, end of life decision rights and property inheritance rights to same sex couples. Wisconsin is one of many states which has addressed same-sex partnerships in recent years, including Hawaii, Illinois and Washington. Six US states allow same-sex marriage.
